Hot presses are widely used in post-processing to flatten, smooth, and set products to the required thickness and surface finish. They can also be equipped with patterned rollers to impart specific textures to the products. Given their widespread use in factories, how should a hot press be cleaned after a period of operation?

I. Key Components of the Hot Press

1. Frame: Primarily serves to support components such as the hot press platens and hydraulic cylinders. It also withstands the total pressure exerted during the hot pressing operation.

2. Hydraulic Cylinder: An actuator mechanism used to achieve reciprocating linear motion.

3. Hot Press Platen: Crucial for transferring pressure and heat. Its mechanical strength, rigidity, and heat transfer performance directly impact the quality of the finished product and the equipment's output.

II. How to Clean the Hot Press

1. Drain the existing heat transfer oil from the system (drain as thoroughly as possible to minimize the amount of cleaning agent required) and verify that the circulation piping is unobstructed to ensure system flow.

2. Cleaning: Add the cleaning agent to the reservoir and activate the circulation pump; no heating is required—use at ambient temperature. Toggle the system valves to ensure all internal sections are cleaned; it is advisable to switch valves once every hour. The total cleaning duration is 4 hours (extend the time if there is a thick layer of oil residue). Inspect the cleaning progress by opening a section of the circulation piping; if oil deposits remain, extend the cleaning time until all residue is stripped away before proceeding to the next step.

3. Emptying: Drain all cleaning agent and oil residue from the system back into the cleaning agent reservoir. If facilities permit, use an air compressor to blow out any residual liquid from the jackets. If air purging is not possible, simply open all valves on the heating vessel and allow it to air-dry naturally.

4. Cleaning Agent Recovery: Do not discard the cleaning solution after the process; although it may turn black, the product is reusable. Since the cleaning agent reacts with oil coke via a dissolution process, the heat transfer oil will form a layer on top of the cleaning solution, while sludge settles at the bottom. Simply extract the top oil layer; the remaining cleaning solution can be reused for future cleaning operations with undiminished effectiveness. 5. Cleaning complete.
